Silent Princess Guide

If you have played Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you know that sound contributes a lot to the gameplay and combat mechanics. If an enemy hears something audible like a loud explosion of a bomb, they would more often than not go near the occurrence to investigate. This mechanic can lead to strategies like making a loud noise at a distance to distract the enemies away from their position.

Likewise, staying silent is also vital in combat. You will not want to make a lot of sounds near you if you do not wish for enemies to find out your location. Furthermore, you can deal a lot more damage when you hit an enemy with a weapon if they did not notice you at all. However, staying silent can become highly challenging, especially if the enemies are keenly reviewing their surroundings.

Thankfully, you can cook up elixirs and food that can help you in your sneaking, and one of the ingredients needed to make something like that is the Silent Princess. It is a beautiful flower found in Hyrule that, according to Zelda, is endangered and hard to domesticate. If you are just as fascinated as Zelda is in this mysterious plant, read more to discover what it can do.

What is the Silent Princess in the Legend of Zelda?

“This lovely flower is said to be a favourite of Princess Zelda. Once feared to have gone extinct, it can sometimes be spotted growing in the wild” – in-game description.

The Silent Princess is a white and light blue flower plant you can get in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. They grow in many places Hyrule, especially in the forests or around the area of the Great Fairies. Their primary use is to make stealth-related consumables like food and elixirs. Another use for them is being ingredients for upgrading specific armour.

It is said to be endangered, but mysteriously, they have grown back in the wild. Still, their numbers are low, and thus they are considered valuable ingredients. Despite its status as an uncommon commodity, you can only get ten rupees from selling one, so it is not advisable to collect these to make money.

Where are Silent Princesses in BOTW?

Silent Princess Guide

Silent Princesses can be found in Hyrule’s many forests and can even be in the woods near nearby villages like Hateno or Kakariko Village. Other places to look for them where they commonly grow are on the hilltop behind the Ta’loh Naeg Shrine and the environment around the Great Fairy Cotera. Other Great Fairy Fountains also have Silent Princesses around them.

Hyrule Ridge and West Neculda contain Silent Princesses if you look for them. No matter what happens, specific places have these flowers, such as in the Korok Forest. Three Silent Princesses grow near the Master Sword’s resting place. Another one would be in Hyrule Castle, specifically in Princess Zelda’s Study. Mysteriously, it is the only non-monstrous living organism found in the area.

Where are Silent Princesses in Age of Calamity?

Age of Calamity

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has a different way of gathering materials from Breath of the Wild. They are still rare resources and can be challenging to find early on in the game. There are quests and missions that reward you after finishing them.

Searching the map of Hyrule for Silent Princesses may not result in anything popping up. Instead, it is advisable to reach Chapter 3 first as extra challenges and missions will become available. Many of these missions will offer the flower as a reward. Furthermore, finishing the main story can give you more quests that can give you ample amounts of Silent Princesses.

Additionally, a shop is available that can sell you Silent Princesses. Rhodo, a merchant in the game, can occasionally sell you them for 160 rupees each. The stock of flowers he has may vary from five to nine, and it is not guaranteed that he will sell them at every encounter. There is only a slim chance that he will sell the Silent Princesses.

What Does the Silent Princess do in BOTW?

There are two main uses for the Silent Princess. First, you can use the Silent Princess as an ingredient for adding up a stealth boost in your dishes when you are cooking. Second, you can use it to upgrade a number of clothes at the Great Fairies.

How to Cook with the Silent Princess in BOTW

Cook

There are two ways to cook the Silent Princess: add it into an elixir or a meal. If you wish to make a meal and add the Silent Princess in, you need to use food ingredients alongside it. You can add the flower into any meal, and you can garner its effects. When you put it in a dish, you can recover two additional hearts when you eat it. Furthermore, you can also get two minutes of stealth boost upon consumption.

If you want to make an elixir, you must put in at least one monster part and critter alongside the flower to succeed. Critters are the insects, lizards, and frogs you can catch in the game, while the monster parts are the various body pieces of monsters that drop when you kill them. An example of such would be the guts of Bokoblins, Moblins, Hinox, and Lynels, or the tails of the varying Lizalfos.

May it be an elixir or a meal, an effect’s number of levels determines its effectiveness. Each effect has a maximum number of levels that ingredients can fill up, and by that logic, each ingredient has a number of levels that can fill up the boost. The stealth boost has a maximum level of nine, and the Stealth Princess fills up three levels.

Making a Stealth Boost Elixir in BOTW

Stealth Boost Elixir

Elixirs are good at extending the duration of an effect. The max duration of an elixir or a meal is 30 minutes, and luckily, there is an ingredient that fulfils that maximum. However, it is hard to come by as it is a rare material. I am talking about the shards of the horns of either three dragons: Dinraal, Naydra, and Farosh.

Since the dragon horns are not monster parts, you must add a monster part ingredient into the mix. The only critter that can add an effect in a stealth boost elixir is the Sunset Firefly, and unfortunately, it only adds one level into it. By adding two Silent Princesses and a Sunset Firefly, we achieve only seven levels for three ingredients.

The maximum number of ingredients in cooking is five, so there are only two possible ingredients to add left, and we still need a monster part. Adding up everything we have discussed, a fundamental sacrifice must be made: either leave out the dragon horn to reach nine levels of stealth or leave out two levels of stealth to maximize the duration by adding a dragon horn.

Maximizing Stealth Boost Levels

If you choose to leave out the dragon horn in favour of maximizing nine levels of stealth and one monster part, below is the best elixir possible.

  • Silent Princess (x2): Adds six levels of stealth and two minutes of stealth duration
  • Silent Shroom or Stealthfin Trout (x1): Adds two levels of stealth and two minutes of stealth duration
  • Sunset Firefly (x1): Adds one level of stealth and two minutes of stealth duration
  • Any of the monster parts below (x1): Adds three minutes and ten seconds of stealth duration.
    • Bokoblin Guts
    • Moblin Guts
    • Lynel Guts
    • Hinox Guts
    • Molduga Guts
    • Lizalfos Tail
    • Red Lizalfos Tail
    • Yellow Lizalfos Tail
    • Keese Eyeball
    • Ancient Core
    • Giant Ancient Core

The above elixir will grant nine levels of stealth boost that will last 11 minutes and ten seconds when consumed. Alternatively, you can replace the Silent Shroom or Stealthfin Trout for another Silent Princess, totalling three flowers required. Furthermore, I recommend using the Bokoblin or Moblin Guts or the Lizalfos Tail for the monster parts as they are effortless to gather. Keese Eyeballs also work.

Maximizing Stealth Boost Duration

If you choose to sacrifice two levels of stealth to maximize the duration of the stealth boost, below is the best elixir possible.

  • Silent Princess (x2): Adds six levels of stealth and two minutes of stealth duration (duration is negligible because the dragon horn maximizes it)
  • Sunset Firefly (x1): Adds one level of stealth and two minutes of stealth duration (duration is negligible because the dragon horn maximizes it)
  • Any monster parts (x1): Adds one minute and ten seconds of stealth duration (duration is negligible because the dragon horn maximizes it)
  • Any of the shards of dragon horns below (x1): Maximizes the stealth duration to 30 minutes.
    • Shard of Dinraal’s Horn
    • Shard of Naydra’s Horn
    • Shard of Farosh’s Horn

The above elixir will grant seven levels of stealth boost that will last 30 minutes when consumed. I recommend using the horn of Bokoblins, Moblins, or Lizalfos as they are easy to gather. Chuchu Jellies and Keese Wings are also easy to come by.

Making a Stealth Boost Meal in BOTW

The rule to making a meal is to not include a monster part and a critter among the ingredients. Adding either one without the other will result in dubious food, which you would want to avoid making. The dragon horn that maximizes the duration of an effect to 30 minutes can be added to a meal since it is not considered a monster part.

Using Shard of Dragon Horn

Unlike the stealth boost elixir, you can maximize the stealth boost’s levels and duration since you do not need to add a critter or a monster part. However, note that dragon horns, the ingredient used to maximize the duration, are extremely rare. There are many ways to do this, and their recipes are listed below.

Without Using Shard of Dragon Horn

Shards of dragon horn are understandably rare to gather, so if you do not have any of them in your inventory, you can still make long-lasting stealth boost meals. To make a high-level one, you need to reach nine levels of stealth. Below are the ingredients that can provide you with varying stealth levels.

Ingredient

Stealth level Stealth duration

Hearts added

Silent Princess Three levels Two minutes Two hearts
Silent Shroom Two levels Two minutes One heart
Stealthfin Trout Two levels Two minutes Two hearts
Blue Nightshade One level Two minutes N/A
Sneaky River Snail One level Two minutes Two hearts

Theoretically, you can reach nine levels of stealth using five of these ingredients, and doing so will extend the effect’s duration to ten minutes. Going past nine levels does not make the effect better. For example, cooking five Silent Princesses has the same effects as two of these flowers plus three Sneaky Shrooms. The possible combinations that require Silent Princesses are listed below.

  • Silent Princess (x2)
    • + Blue Nightshade (x3) = Sneaky Fried Wild Greens (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, four hearts recovered);
    • + Sneaky River Snail (x3) = Sneaky Steamed Fish (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, ten hearts recovered);
    • + Blue Nightshade (x2) + Sneaky River Snail (x1) = Sneaky Steamed Fish (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, six hearts recovered);
    • + Blue Nightshade (x1) + Sneaky River Snail (x2) = Sneaky Steamed Fish (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, eight hearts recovered);
  • Silent Princess (x1)
    • + Silent Shroom (x2)
      • + Blue Nightshade (x2) = Sneaky Steamed Mushrooms (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, four hearts recovered);
      • + Sneaky River Snail (x2) = Sneaky Fish and Mushroom Skewer (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, eight hearts recovered);
      • + Blue Nightshade (x1) + Sneaky River Snail (x1) = Sneaky Fish and Mushroom Skewer (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, six hearts recovered);
    • + Stealthfin Trout (x2)
      • + Blue Nightshade (x2) = Sneaky Steamed Fish (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, six hearts recovered);
      • + Sneaky River Snail (x2) = Sneaky Steamed Fish (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, ten hearts recovered);
      • + Blue Nightshade (x1) + Sneaky River Snail (x1) = Sneaky Steamed Fish (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, eight hearts recovered);
    • + Silent Shroom (x1) + Stealthfin Trout (x1)
      • + Blue Nightshade (x2) = Sneaky Fish and Mushroom Skewer (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, five hearts recovered);
      • + Sneaky River Snail (x2) = Sneaky Fish and Mushroom Skewer (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, nine hearts recovered);
      • + Blue Nightshade (x1) + Sneaky River Snail (x1) = Sneaky Fish and Mushroom Skewer (Nine stealth levels, ten minutes stealth duration, seven hearts recovered);

How to Upgrade Armour With the Silent Princess in BOTW

The Silent Princess can be used to upgrade five armour pieces, with three of them being a part of a set. These are the Champion’s Tunic, the Stealth Set (Stealth Mask, Stealth Chest Guard, and Stealth Tights), and Sheik’s Mask.

You can upgrade these clothes by speaking to the Great Fairies residing in the Great Fairy Fountains. For each Great Fairy you discover, you can upgrade your clothes by up to one tier. Also, you need to pay each of them money to wake them up. The price goes higher every time.

The first Great Fairy you wake up would ask for 100 rupees, the second would ask for 500 rupees, the third for 1,000 rupees, and the final for 10,000 rupees. To fully upgrade your clothes, you would have to discover all four of them. Below is the location of each one. Note that you can discover all of them in any order you would like.

  • Great Fairy Cotera: The forest on the hills of Kakariko Village (head to Tal’noh Naeg Shrine and go to the forest behind it)
  • Great Fairy Mija: The forest on the cliffside east of Akkala Tower
  • Great Fairy Kayasa: The plateau with a small lake south of Tabantha Tower
  • Great Fairy Tera: Under the skeleton southwest from Dragon’s Exile in the Gerudo Desert.

Champion’s Tunic

“In ancient Hyrule, this garment could only be worn by the one who had earned the respect of the royal family. Equipping it will reveal an enemy’s life gauge.” – In-game description.

The Champion’s Tunic is a blue tunic you can get from Impa in Kakariko Village when you have recovered at least one of Link’s memories from Zelda’s photographs. It has a base defence of 5 and a special ability to make the enemies’ health visible when worn. It cannot be dyed, but it can be enhanced. You would need 19 Silent Princesses in total to reach its max tier.

Wearing the complete set increases your stealth and your speed during the night. It is both dyeable and upgradeable. Five Silent Princesses are required to upgrade each piece to the max tier, totalling 15 of the flowers.

You can buy the Stealth Set in the Enchanted armour shop run by Claree in Kakariko Village for 1800 rupees. The enchantment below is per piece, not the whole set. So, the full Stealth Set at max enchantment would have 48 defences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Can you Cook the Silent Princess in BOTW?

Answer: Yes, you can. It can be cooked to a meal or an elixir. Do not cook it with gemstones or wood because it will result in dubious food. When cooked, the resulting meal or elixir will have a boost in stealth.

Question: What does the Silent Princess Symbolize?

Answer: Many fans theorized that the Silent Princess represents Princess Zelda. The flower is at the risk of dying, just like Zelda amidst Calamity Ganon, but somehow it persists and continues to live on with hope, which is just like Zelda. It is present in Zelda’s study room, and according to her, it is her favorite flower.

Question: What is the Silent Princess Based on?

Answer: According to many fans, it closely resembles a blue heart lily, which is a white lily dyed lightly in blue. Others have also pointed out that it resembles Gentiana flowers, which are trumpet-shaped blue flowers. However, the developers or the writers of the game have not revealed what they are based on.

Conclusion on Silent Princesses in the Legend of Zelda

The Silent Princess is a beneficial flower, especially in making stealth-related elixirs and meals. They are fundamental in making high-level stealth boosts in your cooking. If you have a shard of a dragon’s horn, I would advise you to cook a meal instead of an elixir, as elixirs are only superior to meals in terms of an effect’s duration.

Since a shard of a dragon horn would maximize the duration to 30 minutes, there is no need to go for an elixir. Meals can restore even more hearts. To get the most out of your stealth-boost meal, you can cook three Silent Princesses, one Gourmet Meat, and one shard of a dragon’s horn to have a maximum stealth boost, the maximum duration of 30 minutes, and restore 15 hearts.

However, if you think the shard of a dragon horn is too valuable to be made into an ingredient for stealth meals, it would be the perfect time to switch to elixirs. The stealth elixir with the highest duration possible without using a shard of a dragon’s horn will last for 11 minutes and ten seconds, while the meal of the same calibre would last for 10 minutes.
