North Lomei Labyrinth Guide: What You Need to Know

One of the best armor sets in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Barbarian Armor. This armor increases Link’s attack power, especially when he’s wearing all three pieces.

That means he’ll deal more damage when fighting an enemy. However, to get the full set, you have to complete the three labyrinths scattered throughout Hyrule.

One of those labyrinths is the North Lomei Labyrinth, also called the Trial of the Cliff, located in the Hebra region of Hyrule. But there’s more to getting the Barbarian Leg Wraps than just running around in a maze. In the following guide, we’ll tell you how to get to the labyrinth, how to navigate it, and what to expect along the way.

So what are we waiting for? Let’s get started!

Key Details Up Front

The North Lomei Labyrinth is a difficult challenge for any Breath of the Wild player. Along with that challenge is a trove of rewards and treasures for anyone patient enough to fully explore the labyrinth.

Additionally, the Qaza Tokki shrine lies within the maze, which is home to the Barbarian Leg Wraps, a piece of armor that provides Link additional strength as he battles his way through Hyrule.

Getting There

North Lomei Labyrinth Guide

While the labyrinth itself is challenging, getting there is no easy feat itself. The maze is located in the Hebra Mountains and once you know where to look, it’s hard to miss. It’s in the northeast corner of the region, almost due north of Hyrule Castle.

To get there, fast travel to Hebra Tower, then glide down to the path. Follow it northeast until you arrive at Snowfield Stable. However, before you head to Hebra, equip yourself with warm clothes. This is a snowy and cold area and you’ll want to stay warm or run the risk of losing hearts.

From the Snowfield Stable, you have a few options. To the north is the Sha Gehma shrine. Unlocking that shrine gets you closer to the labyrinth, but you’ll likely have to fight a Lynel to get there. Once you manage to unlock Sha Gehma, it’s just a straight shot east to the North Lomei Labyrinth.

Of course, if you decide to go that route, you’ll have to fight another Lynel that roams the fields between the shrine and the labyrinth. However, if you need Lynel parts to upgrade your Barbarian Armor, this is a good place to do so since there are two within close proximity of one another.

If you’re not in the fighting mood, just head due northeast from Snowfield Stable. You’ll have to climb the mountain standing in the way and you might encounter a decayed guardian, but it will get you there without forcing you to fight a lot of enemies.

You’ll recognize the maze when you see it. It’s a large edifice with high walls. The entrance is on the west side of the labyrinth. Head on in and wait for the monk’s voice to kick off the Trial on the Cliff.

Completing the Labyrinth

When Link enters the labyrinth, the voice of Qaza Tokki, the monk inhabiting the shrine within the maze, will speak. He tells link that there is a blessing waiting for him at the end of the labyrinth. When he finishes speaking, the Trial on the Cliff shrine quest begins.

To complete the maze, you’ll need to eliminate the Malice to get to the middle, which is where the shrine sits. Doing so requires Link to do a little backtracking. It takes a little extra time, but if you want access to the shrine, you’ll need to do so.

First, continue forward until the shrine is visible. It’s located behind a portcullis, so you can’t get to it from where you are. Malice blocks your path on the left, so that direction isn’t an option. Face the shrine and head to the right.

At the bottom of the stairs, take a left. You’ll walk up a small set of stairs as you make your way around the shrine that you frustratingly can’t access. When you get to the corner, you’ll discover more Malic on your left, again forcing you to head to the right.

Now head south and follow the path. It will wind around in what appears to be an aimless direction for a while. Eventually, you’ll hit a fork that splits in two directions. Take a left, which points to the east.

At the corner, take another right and a quick left. If you’re not sure you’re headed in the right direction, take a look at your compass. At this point, you should be headed east.

Beware of Enemies

North Lomei Labyrinth

The path will curve to the left once again, taking you to another fork. Take the right path this time, following it to the northeast. As you make your way through the maze, keep an eye out for a Lizalfos on the right side. Get rid of him, then keep on the path. It will continue north.

Eventually, you’ll pass a fire rod on the left. A Lizalfos is sitting in wait on the right, so be ready for him. Take him out, then make a left when you pass the pillar. Another Lizalfos is lying in wait, but if you want to avoid him, take a left after the first pillar, then an immediate right. One more left and you’ll be headed west.

Now the path will start to zigzag a little. Instead of going straight, take a right, then keep moving to the north until you can head to the west (left). Once again the path will zigzag, but this time you’ll be going northwest. Look for the short stairway that leads to a platform.

On the platform, you’ll see three torches on one side and a tunnel on the other. The tunnel is covered with Malice, so you’ll have to bypass it for now. But remember where it is. Go to the left once you make your way past the tunnel.

Follow the path to the south. Eventually, it makes a curve to the right. Keep moving west as it winds around and eventually turns to the left. You should be headed south. When you reach the intersection, go right. Take a left, then follow the wall until you can go left again, heading back to the east.

The path will go up and then make a right turn. You’re near the shrine once again, but now you can see the Malice Eye that you need to destroy. Take it out to clear the labyrinth of all Malice.

With the Malice out of the way, you can access areas of the labyrinth which were previously blocked. Head back the way you came and look for the platform and the tunnel. Head south through the tunnel, then make a left. You’ll see a new tunnel that was previously inaccessible due to the Malice.

Move back to the east through the path and follow it as far as it goes. Eventually, it will split off to the right. Keep moving straight until you find a wall with a ladder. This ladder leads up to a platform with two torches. Go up the ladder.

Follow the platform until you run into a low staircase. Follow the tunnel and you’ll emerge in the shrine chamber!

Congrats! You’ve done it! Now, all you have to do is enter the shrine, collect your treasure, and get that spirit orb.

Qaza Tokki Shrine

Inside the Qaza Tokki Shrine, there are no puzzles to solve or enemies to fight. All you have to do is run straight forward and open the treasure chest in front of you. Within the chest are the Barbarian Wraps. Once you have those, speak to the monk, collect your spirit orb, and check off another shrine!

Additional Treasures

Qaza Tokki Shrine

Once you’ve cleared the shrine, you can explore the rest of the maze to claim more treasures. Head back to the room you enter when you enter the maze. There’s an opening at the top. If you’re having trouble finding it, look for the vine working its way down from the top.

Glide over, climb up, and you’ll discover a room full of chests. There are three in total. Within these chests are one sapphire, one ruby, and one topaz. These jewels are used to upgrade armor or you can sell them if you need some cash.

If you climb to the top of the maze (if you don’t have Revali’s Gale there are places on the way up you can rest), you’ll find a treasure chest with a diamond. Also within the maze, you’ll discover chests with gold and silver rupees, ice arrows, and an Edge of Duality.

FAQs

There’s a lot to know about the North Lomei Labyrinth. If you want to know more about this challenging maze, check out some of these frequently asked questions:

Question: How Many Labyrinths are there in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?

Answer: There are three labyrinths scattered throughout Hyrule in Breath of the Wild. You’ll see them on the map as maze-like images. They are located in the Akkala, Hebra, and Gerudo regions. Every labyrinth has a shrine, is filled with treasure chests, and offers a piece of the Barbarian Armor set.

Question: Where Do You Find the Ladder in the North Lomei Labyrinth?

Answer: Make your way to the north corner of the Lomei Labyrinth. You’ll find hidden tunnels, which lead Link to the ladder that he can take to get to the shrine. At the top of the ladder is a tunnel that leads to the middle of the maze. This, in turn, will take Link to a platform above the Qaza Tokki Shrine.

Question: How Do I Get the Barbarian Leg Wraps?

Answer: Link gets the Barbarian Leg Wraps when he completes the Qaza Tokki Shrine, which is in the middle of the North Lomei Labyrinth.

Question: Should I Upgrade My Barbarian Armor?

Answer: Once you have all three pieces of the Barbarian Armor, you’ll get a power upgrade to any weapon you use. You can also use your charged attack for a longer period of time.
However, keep in mind that you won’t have much defense when wearing this armor. If you prefer to focus on defense, our best bet is to purchase the pieces of Ancient Armor available in the Akkala Tech Lab.

Question: How Many Shrines are in Breath of the Wild?

Answer: There are 120 total shrines scattered throughout Hyrule in Breath of the Wild. However, if you play the DLC, there are an additional 16 shrines. This gives you a total of 136 shrines in Breath of the Wild.

Question: How Do I Get Rid of Malice in Breath of the Wild?

Answer: You’ll find Malice in various places throughout Hyrule. If you touch it, it will hurt you, so it’s necessary to make your way around it or get rid of it altogether. If you can find the eye connected to the Malice, you can shoot it with an arrow to destroy it.
