Naydra is one of three dragons that inhabit Hyrule. Located in the Lanayru region, its counterparts are Dinraal (Eldin Mountains) and Farosh (Faron Region). Each dragon inhabits and protects one of the springs of the Tri-Force.

Naydra protects the Spring of Wisdom, Dinraal the Spring of Power, and Farosh the Spring of Courage. Each dragon is invincible, yet each plays a specific role in unlocking the shrines associated with each spring.

Description

Once Link frees Naydra from the Malice in which it is encased, the dragon turns into a glorious creature. It’s purple and turquoise radiance shines like a beacon across the Lanayru region. However, remember not to get too close as the dragon will freeze Link.

Finding Naydra

Naydra is at the top of Mount Lanaryu, but dress warm or take plenty of warming elixirs because it’s going to get cold. The dragon is almost due north of the Hateno Ancient Lab, so if you don’t mind going up and over mountains, that’s how to get there are the crow flies.

However, if you prefer to go another route, find your way to Naydra Snowfield, which is southeast of the Lanaryu Road East Gate. There’s a Lynel by the gate, so be on your guard.

From the snowfield, you should find a path that winds up into the mountain. It will switch back and forth as you make your way to the top, and you’ll encounter plenty of enemies so make sure you have enough food and warm clothing.

At the summit of Mount Lanaryu, you’ll find Naydra wrapped around the Spring of Wisdom, covered in Malice. It is not a pretty site.

Freeing Naydra

There is a large Malice eyeball within view when Link meets Naydra for the first time. Shoot the eyeball to begin a cutscene in which Naydra uncurls from the spring and begins to make its way down the mountain.

Once the cutscene is over, head to the top of the mountain and and launch Link off the top using the glider. As he makes his way down, guide Link toward Naydra while using bullet-time to shoot the remaining Malice eyeballs.

If Link misses yet hits Naydra, the dragon will drop other materials that will come in handy during Link’s exploration of Hyrule. In the meantime, continue shooting until all the Maiice eyeballs are gone, at which time you’ll return to the mountaintop and speak with the Goddess of Wisdom.

Naydra Drops

Naydra drops various items when Link shoots the dragon. The item dropped will depend on where Link hits it. Drops include Naydra’s Scale, Naydra’s Claw, a Shard of Naydra’s Fang and a Shard of Naydra’s Horn. Each of these items have a different purpose.

Jitan Sa’mi Shrine

Once Naydra is free from the Malice, Link will have access to the Jian Sa’mi Shrine. However, he must first appease the Goddess Statue which prevents Link from accessing the shrine. The statue will encourage Link to shoot one more arrow at Naydra.

The dragon will take off once again, but not before dropping one of its scales, which conveniently lanks directly in front of Link. Grab the scale and give it as an offering to the Spring of Wisdom. Doing so opens the door behind the Goddess Statue, revealing the way to the Jitam Sa’mi Shrine.

Within the shrine, the shrine’s monk will tell Link that he has done well to enter the shrine, and by doing so has proven his worth. There are no puzzles to solve or enemies to defeat. Simply open the treasure chest and receive a Frostspear, then move forward and speak with Jitan Sa’mi. Link’s hearts will be refilled once again and he’ll receive another spirit orb as proof that he conquered the shrine.
