Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo Unlocks: Fierce Deity Link, Epona, More

The breadth and sheer freedom in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can be pretty overwhelming, even for those who mastered Breath of the Wild and Calamity Ganon already. That said, one of the easiest ways to instantly get helpful items, difficult-to-find special outfits for Link, and more, is to use Amiibo. Here’s what you need to know about the Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo unlocks.

Amiibo is the classic toys-to-life lineup that Nintendo has where you collect real-life figures with a function in-game. Breath of the Wild was one of the best games to use Amiibo in, and Tears of the Kingdom is certainly no different.

From the rare recreation of outfits of past Links from other games to brilliant swords that will make the game a bit easier, here are all of the Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo unlocks.

Bottom Line Up Front

There are 26 Amiibo in total that are based around The Legend of Zelda franchise that has an immense function in the latest game in the series, Tears of the Kingdom. Though you are free to use any and all Amiibo, you’ll mostly only get materials, food items, and other basic rewards from them.

Instead, if you use The Legend of Zelda-themed Amiibo, you are guaranteed to get some great rewards, including food, materials, weapons, paraglider designs, or even outfits. What sucks about the Amiibo unlocks in TOTK is that everything is randomized. You can’t guarantee what you’ll get this time around.

How to Scan Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo

If you plan to play Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll find that Link loses a lot of the excellent progression, hearts, and stamina you worked so hard to get in Breath of the Wild if you played that game. This makes the beginning of this title a challenge, but there is a way to make it immediately easier.

Soon after starting the game, you can use the Amiibo power. This power is one of the core abilities in the game, and it allows you to scan the Amiibo figures in-game to earn special rewards instantly. Before doing anything else, you should open the menu and head to the settings.

It is possible to turn off Amiibo functionality in the settings here, so you want to ensure you have it still on before starting to scan your Amiibo. Once that is ready, you want to then hold down the L button on the controller to pull up the radial menu that includes all of your various abilities.

So long as you have unlocked the first ability in the game already, you’ll have access to this wheel and the Amiibo option. Select that particular ability, and then you’ll see a glowing white circle appear in front of you. You can move it around, and this determines where your Amiibo rewards drop.

While you have the circle up, it is now time to scan your Amiibo figures. Pick them up and touch the figure’s base to the right thumbstick on your controller. Bear in mind that not all third-party controllers have the ability to scan Amiibo, but any official controllers like the Joy-Cons and Pro Controller can do this.

After scanning the Amiibo figure, the game will instantly spawn your rewards in front of you. Once again, remember that many of these rewards will be completely randomized. While rewards that were in Breath of the Wild, such as the Fierce Deity Link outfit, are still here, you aren’t guaranteed to get them if you scan the Majora’s Mask Amiibo like before.

How to Get All 26 The Legend of Zelda Amiibo Cheap

One of the most annoying parts of the Amiibo situation in Tears of the Kingdom is that you can only scan a particular Amiibo once per day. For instance, if you bought the new Link Amiibo featuring his outfit and changed arm from Tears of the Kingdom, you can only scan it once per day.

Once you scan and get its random rewards, you’ll have to wait until the following day to scan it again. That said, you can scan as many Amiibo as you want, so long as they are entirely different ones. There are 26 The Legend of Zelda Amiibo in total, and they can all be scanned once per day.

But the problem with this is that it implies that you own all 26 of the different Amiibo. Even if you were able to get all of these figures for their initial suggested retail price, which is unlikely, you’d be looking at a few hundred dollars. Thankfully, there is a cheap and easy way to get all of these Amiibo.

There are Amiibo sellers who create these Amiibo coins that have the data of the figure stored in them but are cheap and efficient. Sure, you miss out on the beauty of the actual figures, but you can get all 26 of these for roughly the price of two actual Amiibos or perhaps even less.

I bought a pack of these myself and can confirm that this is an excellent method for quickly scanning and getting items for cheap. Just make sure to check the reviews and reputation of the seller you’re buying from on eBay, Etsy, and the like.

Without further ado, let’s dive in and take a look at all 26 of The Legend of Zelda Amiibo figures that exist and what items you can get from them. Remember that you only have a chance of getting these items, but I made sure to include the most likely items you’ll get that are highly sought-after for that Amiibo.

How to Guarantee the Amiibo Item You Want

Now, it is unfortunate that Nintendo decided to make the Amiibo rewards random this time around, but there is a way to guarantee an item in a way. Just keep in mind that this will take some time, depending on your luck, but this is legit, and there is nothing wrong with doing this.

What you want to do is scan the Amiibo in question that you want to get an item. For instance, maybe you want a Toon Link outfit from the Toon Link  (Link’s Awakening) Amiibo. What you want to do is scan it, and then a chest will drop from the sky alongside the other various food and additional items.

Before you open up the chest and reveal what’s inside, save your game. Then open up the chest, and if it isn’t what you wanted, reload that save you just made and try it again. It is seemingly randomized each time you open the chest, so if you repeat this over and over, you can eventually get the item you desire.

It can take a lot of time to do this method, though, especially if luck isn’t exactly on your side. Remember that the once-per-day rule still applies, so once you pick a reward to keep, you won’t be able to rescan that Amiibo until the next day.

How to Scan the Same Amiibo More than Once Per Day in TOTK

tears of the kingdom amiibo unlocks

Now, the other annoying part of the Amiibo unlocks in Tears of the Kingdom is the frustrating once-per-day restriction. As you might expect, changing the date of your Nintendo Switch opens up the chance to scan your Amiibo figures all over again without waiting.

To do this, first, you want to turn off your internet connection. Then you want to scan the Amiibo you have all at once. Once you’re done with your figures, save the game, and head to the Nintendo Switch settings. Under the date and time area, change the date to the following day.

Open up Tears of the Kingdom, and you’ll be able to rescan all of your figures again instantly. You can keep doing this over and over as many times as you want. You can do this to find the specific reward you want, unlock as many items as you need, and so on.

I, personally, used this method to earn enough items to sell for lots of money. This helped me to fund other purchases and certain unique content in Tears of the Kingdom that I dare not spoil in this particular post. When you’re done rescanning, turn your date back to the real date and time, and then you are free to connect to the internet again.

FAQs

Question: What does the Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo Get You?

Answer: The Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo can get you a variety of rewards and items, including food, materials, gems, weapons, consumables, shields, paraglider designs, and even outfits. It is wholly randomized which items you’ll get, though some Amiibo has better chances at specific items.

Question: How Often can You Use Amiibo Tears of the Kingdom?

Answer: You can only use a single specific Amiibo figure once per day in Tears of the Kingdom. But if you happen to own 40 completely different Amiibo figures, for instance, you could scan all of them in a row every single day if you’d like.

Question: Is Wolf Link in Tears of the Kingdom?

Answer: No, unfortunately, Wolf Link isn’t in Tears of the Kingdom as a companion to run around with. Despite being available in Breath of the Wild, Wolf Link isn’t available in this game. You can still scan his Amiibo figure, but you won’t get Wolf Link. That said, some features somewhat make up for this unfortunate exclusion.

Find Out about All of the Rare Horses

There is so much benefit to taking full advantage of the Amiibo support in Tears of the Kingdom. I know for me, I never owned or had the desire ever to use an Amiibo figure before Breath of the Wild and never again since until Tears of the Kingdom.

This pushed me even to buy all The Legend of Zelda Amiibo coins so I could reap all of the excellent rewards in my game. It’s why I am able to use Fierce Deity Link finally, have a decent set of Rupees to fund my adventures in Hyrule and ride around on Epona.

Speaking of Epona, this eponymous horse companion of Link’s from the franchise is back once again in this game. If you want to use this brilliantly balanced horse in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll want to use Amiibo.

But if you don’t have Amiibo or want another horse buddy, be sure to look at some of the rarest horses from Breath of the Wild, some of which are in TOTK, too.
